This past weekend, we went on a 2 day trip to New Orleans. Our first stop was the MDS centre where we were shown where workers stay when working with them. Then we drove on to the Ninth Ward, where the worst of the flooding damage after the hurricane was. It was an eerie, deserted place, though there have been a few houses rebuilt in that area. After that, we went to the Imax and saw "Hurricane on the Bayou", a very intense show about Hurricane Katrina. We went to the French Quarter and walked down Bourbon Street, where Mardi Gras festivities were well on their way. We didn't spend much time there! We spent the night in Morgan City, and next day, after a hearty breakfast of grits, biscuits and gravy, we headed for Iberia. On the way we stopped to look at a sugar cane field, and then stopped at a farm yard to talk to a farm hand about the sugar cane operation. We went into the city, and toured a sugar cane plantation house. Our trip ended with supper at the Catfish Cabin and a bluegrass jamboree in Ragly. The elderly gentleman in the picture is either 85 or 94, depending on whom you talked to. He played his fiddle and sang as well as anyone. There were 6 groups performing, 4 hours of great entertainment! Sunday morning we went to a black Baptist church. Very exuberant, loud, and a good message (AMEN). Had lunch at Cajun Charlies, a buffet with a wonderful feast of Cajun food! In the afternoon, George and I went for a ride to Holly Beach which is on the Gulf of Mexico, and that was our weekend.

It sure sounds exciting from way up here that's for sure. But then again 3 boys and farming is exciting too. I look forward to hearing all the stories when you get back!!
