This past week was spent working with the volunteer work group that flew down here from
Florida. There were nine teenagers about my age and an older married couple leading them.
Their project for the week was to lay a border of narrow paving stones – or bricks – or whatever
they might be called, around the house we are staying in, and then fill in between the bricks
and the house with coarse gravel. They also laid down fabric underneath so that weeds won’t
grow through.
While they were working on that, we were working on the irrigation system for this yard. We
dug several more trenches for more sprinklers, fixed a lot of old sprinkler heads, broke a main
water line with the trencher (which was actually an easy fix), installed a lot of sprinklers, and
closed up all the trenches. As of right now, the irrigation system is basically finished, but there
are still a lot of little things to finish up, and that’s what we were working on this morning.
One of the instructors that I’ve flown with a few times still wants to take me up again, but lately
the weather has been windy, and when it hasn’t, the plane has been busy. Hopefully we’ll get a
chance to go up again sometime soon, because we are only here two more weeks, and time
flies around here.
