January 24th, George's birthday, we drove through the Ozark Mountain region in Arkansas. The scenery is beautiful there! We got to Pine Bluff, AR and found an RV park, where we "summerized" the camper. We went out to Chili's for supper, then back to spend the first night in the camper. On Tuesday we continued driving, through a small part of Lousiana, and into Mississippi. We found a "Welcome Center" in Vicksburg, and got some information on things to see and RV parks. Found the RV park, and set up to spend a few nights there. Next day, we went for a drive on the Natchez Trace Parkway, a scenic drive which goes from Natchez, MS all the way to Nashville, TN...a total of 444 miles. We drove about 25 miles of it. This was a popular road for hunters, settlers, Indians, and traders, until steamboat travel became the preferred means of travel.
We also went to see the Vicksburg National Military Park, which is dedicated to the battle of Vicksburg during the civil war. The picture above is the Vicksburg national cemetery, a military cemetery.


This is the USS Cairo, the first naval ship ever destroyed by a torpedo. It was sunk in the Yazoo River during the civil war.

The top picture is of canons at the battlefield. The next picture was taken yesterday, driving south in Mississippi toward Gulfport. The reason these pictures are all out of order, is that I need to re-learn how to blog..!

We're staying in an RV park just north of Gulfport now, and will drive the last 35 miles to our "home" for the next 4 weeks tomorrow.
